I-Stem Phase I : Training of the team/opening the laboratory

.
The first team, made up of 20 researchers, corresponded to the first phase, of “launching” that lasted 2 years. It was financed by four partners, INSERM, UEVE, AFM and Genopole. This phase had to validate the concepts for the use of human embryonic cells and for understanding and development of treatments for monogenic diseases.
This validation related to the following aspects:
- to build scientific teams, at internationally recognized level
- to develop research programs according to the French law
- to convince the principal financial partners of the interest of the investment in the exploitation of the therapeutic potential of the stem cells.

Creation of a joint research unit INSERM/UEVE

A positive evaluation by INSERM allowed the creation of a new unit, U861.
In addition, the AFM as well as the ministry for national education and research also decided to renew their engagement in this program for 4 years.
These various partnerships made it possible to ensure the continuation of the research unit INSERM/UEVE UMR 861, I-STEM, AFM.
